I am Juana Lafaja Mazuecos. I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zaragoza in 1997 and trained as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Miguel Servet University Hospital. I worked as a gynaecologist at the General University Hospital of Elche and, since 2004, I have had my own practice in Elche, at NG Clínicas.

Over the years I have added other perspectives to gynaecology: a university Master's degree in Sexology, training in cellular nutrition, environmental medicine and ozone therapy, and the use of pessaries. They all start from the same idea that guides my practice: every woman's body is a complete system, not a collection of isolated organs.

Since 2023 I have coordinated research groups as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for the PMDD Foundation, and I am working on my PhD in Bioengineering at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche on premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Research

Since 2023 I have coordinated research groups as a Medical Science Liaison for the PMDD Foundation. I have promoted the rigorous study of PMS and PMDD, bringing several research groups together through the DISFEM project, in which the Miguel Hernández University of Elche takes part, with funding and support from the PMDD Foundation.

DISFEM compares women with severe premenstrual symptoms with a control group to study the vaginal microbiota, the inflammatory cells of the cervix (mast cells) and the immune and inflammatory mechanisms that could explain the disorder. My doctoral thesis at the UMH, “Premenstrual dysphoric disorder: from the clinic to the omics”, is part of this work.

    A cross-sectional study of 165 patients: cervical inflammation was associated with poorer sexual function, and cervical pain on examination was the most closely related parameter.
